AGARTALA:

Almost a week after the attack on Tripura Congress president Pijush Biswas, the police on Thursday arrested the head of the party's minority cell in the state, Joydul Hossain for his alleged involvement in the attack.

Hossain was arrested from the airport on January 21 and later taken to Bishalgarh court. From there, the Congress leader was sent to jail for one day.

Congress supporters, who gathered outside the court premises where he was taken, shouted slogans in support of Hossain.

Reportedly, police suspect his involvement after some audio recordings that are supposedly linked to the attack were found.

"They are trying to fish in the muddy water," he said while alleging the ruling BJP of conspiring against him.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Congress President Pijush Biswas said he has not filed a complaint against anyone so far.

When asked about Hossain's arrest, Biswas said, "I will tell you tomorrow (Friday)."

Congress President Pijush Biswas had visited Bishalgarh on Sunday last where he was attacked and his car vandalized. The Congress on Monday called a 12-hour strike in Tripura in protest against the incident.
