AGARTALA: The Tripura Congress called for a 12-hour bandh, following the attack on state president Pijush Biswas on Sunday at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district.

According to various reports, Congress supporters across the state carried out road blockades and burnt tyres along the roads, including national highways.

The party supporters protested at the Congress Bhavan, following a rally in Agartala and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Congress leader Pujan Biswas said that the twelve-hour bandh against the misconduct by the BJP government was carried out successfully.

“I condemn the attack on senior citizen and Congress president Pijush Biswas. But BJP has done no kind of attack on him. However, Pijush Da is a senior advocate of our state, and BJP does not believe in such kind of attack and politics. That was only their internal matter,” BJP Sadar District President Alok Bhattacharjee said.

BJP MP Pratima Bhowmik, after visiting Pijush Biswas at Bishalgarh Hospital, appealed to the Congress party to withdraw the bandh.

Reportedly, offices, schools and other government institutions were said to be open.

Shops and market areas were also partially closed.

So far, there has been no untoward incident reported during this bandh.
