AGARTALA:

Tripura Police suspended a head constable for her alleged involvement in the illegal cannabis trade on Tuesday.

Gayatri Das, a lady constable, was reportedly engaged in the cannabis trade and was in close contact with a member of a local ganja mafia identified as Prashanta Chakraborty.

Manik Das, the superintendent of police in the West Tripura district, suspended her after a telephonic conversation between Gayatri and Prashant was leaked on social media.

Sources stated that Gayatri Das was posted at the police headquarters in Tripura and had developed connections with influential people who introduced her to the business.

Gayatri Das and Prashanta Chakraborty are both residents of Mohanpur subdivision. However, police are on the lookout for Chakraborty who is currently evading the authorities.

According to official sources, 88 police personnel, including Gayatri Das, have either been suspended or arrested for their alleged involvement with ‘Ganja’ cultivators in the past few months.

An investigation is underway to bust the racket.
