First steering committee meeting held on COVID-19 vaccine in Sikkim

GANGTOK:

The Sikkim steering committee held a meeting on Friday to develop a coordination mechanism at the state and district level for assessment of various activities like cold chain availability, augmentation and preparation of a database of health workers and the public to ensure readiness for introducing COVID-19 vaccine.

The meeting was held in Tashiling Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary S.C. Gupta and was attended by the different heads of departments and senior officers of the Health Department.

“The COVID-19 vaccination programme has to be done exactly in the same way as all vaccination programmes in the past which were carried out successfully by the state government. The first task would be to select the groups to be vaccinated in the first phase and the logistical requirements thereof,” Gupta said.

The meeting aimed to sensitise the committee on the latest development regarding the vaccine and to discuss various aspects of planning and implementation of the vaccine programme in the state, with coordinated efforts from all concerned.

The Chief Secretary maintained that the COVID-19 situation in the state is yet to be stable and emphasised on the need to take necessary precaution.

Others who attended the meeting included the Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, V.B. Pathak, Principal Secretary of Health K. Sreenivasulu, Principal Secretary of Home, R. Telang among others.
