Mizoram student bodies laud police for solving infant theft case

The Central Youth Chakma Association and Chakma Mahila Samiti lauded the efforts of the Mizoram Police for their swift action and efficiency in solving the baby theft case which took place at Lunglei town on Monday.

The student body in a joint statement informed that the baby boy delivered on January 20, 2021 by Mrs Surota Chakma wife of Mr Dhilon Chakma was stolen by an unidentified woman, on the pretext of shifting the baby to Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).

They further said, “The women convinced the couple by assuring to return the baby to her mother after an hour, but never returned.”

The couple got suspicious after the woman did not return for several hours and filed an FIR at Lunglei Police Station, after which the police swung into action and in a matter of 15 hours arrested the culprit and handed the baby to the parents.

According to sources, the accused has been identified as Vanlalnghaki (41) and booked under Section 363 IPC in connection with the case.
