Meghalaya woman missing for two weeks found in Assam's Hatigoan

A Khasi woman, who went missing since the 10th of January from Guwahati, was finally rescued from Hatigoan in Assam and was taken for medical treatment to Golaghat on Thursday morning.

According to sources, the woman, who is identified as Aimerry Iawphniaw, a mother of two children and a resident of Mawlasnai village in Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya, left the village on the 5th of January and moved to Guwahati to work as a housemaid.

However, she was reported missing from her place of work since the 10th of January.

On receiving the information about the missing report of the woman, who also belongs from Mawhati Assembly Constituency, the local representative of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Charles Marngar intervened and took it up with the Dispur Police of Assam to trace the missing woman.

After two weeks, the woman was finally rescued by one social organisation in Assam known as Golaghat Nirman Mohila Gut, who found the woman at Hatigoan in Assam and later took the woman for medical treatment to Golaghat.

After news of her rescue was intimated, the Mawhati MDC met the Dispur Police Assistant Commissioner, Himanshu Das, seeking his approval to take back the woman to her native place.

After procuring all relevant documents, the MDC along with the family members of the woman, accompanied by Dispur police personnel, proceeded to Golaghat to retrieve the woman.

Till the filing of this report, Aimerry Iawphniaw is still under medical treatment at Golaghat and will be taken back to her native place once all legal procedures are completed by the Assam police.
