NONGPOH:

Ri Bhoi Police observed Road Safety Week on Friday by organising a road rally to impart a message on the importance of being cautious while driving or riding along the National Highways.

Police officers who took part in the rally included the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Head Quarter) V.D.S. Rymbai, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Gilbert Lyngdoh Marshillong, Sub Inspector P.K Lyngdoh and other officers.

Sub Inspector, P.K Lyngdoh, expressed his concerns that the Police Department, especially the traffic branch, had witnessed numerous casualties because of rash and reckless driving, especially along the National Highway.

Police officers took part in the rally.

With this in mind, the Ri Bhoi Police Department is taking all measures to spread the message on responsible driving and riding along the highways.

Lyngdoh also said that most accidents occur during the rainy season. "Therefore people must be cautious while driving on highways, especially on curvy roads, to avoid accidents," Lyngdoh said.

"People should also understand the importance of seat belts, helmets and obey traffic signals and (slow down) while crossing major junctions on the highway," he added.
