Road accident causes heavy traffic jam in Shillong

SHILLONG:

Shillong city on Thursday witnessed heavy traffic jam since morning with the streets packed with loaded trucks, till the filing of this report.

When contacted, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, S Nongtnger informed that a road traffic accident at Madanryting in Shillong disrupted the movement of traffic.

No casualty was reported, the SP informed.

"Traffic personnel are on the job to clear the traffic and ensure smooth movement of vehicles," Nongtnger said.

He also stated that with the repair work of the Dwar Ksuid bridge in Ri Bhoi (bypass) still underway, traffic congestion will continue to remain a challenge for the city police.

Police are also hopeful to clear the roads at the earliest before the arrival of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Shillong on Thursday.

Birla is on a two-day visit to Shillong to inspect the ongoing construction of the new Assembly building at New Shillong Township in Mawdiangdiang.

He will address the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at 11.30 am on Thursday and, on Feb 26, the LS Speaker will attend a programme at the State Convention Centre which will be attended by union ministers and several members of the Parliament.
