Meghalaya: Jeepable Bridge inaugurated on January 5

NONGSTOIN:

The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawshynrut C&RD Block, S Syiemlieh, on Tuesday, inaugurated the Jeepable Bridge at Nongshyiap village under Aradonga Circle in Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills District.

A jeepable bridge is usually constructed in hilly areas or over water bodies. It is good enough to accommodate the weight and size of a jeep at the most due to its rough and narrow design.

The 65-metre bridge was constructed by the villagers of Nongshyiap and Warigro, under the MGNREGA scheme at an amount of Rs 50 lakh.

Earlier, villagers had to face numerous problems to cross through the river since there was no bridge. This affected the villagers and school students, especially during summer.

Others who attended the inauguration programme included Charles Jana, District Programme Manager DRDA Nongstoin and the village heads.
