Meghalaya CM lays a foundation for up-gradation of Pasyih-Garampani road in West Jaintia Hills

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and MLAs Comingone Ymbon and Nujorki Sungoh, laid the foundation for the up-gradation of the Pasyih-Garampani Road in West Jaintia Hills (WJH) district.

Connecting Meghalaya to Assam, the Pasyih–Garampani road is a state highway from 8th Mile of Jowai–Ratacherra Road (NH 6) to Saphai near the boundary of the Meghalaya–Assam Border.

The portion of the road from 21 Km to 47 Km was sanctioned under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) and is funded by the World Bank.

The road passes through several villages including Pyntei, Biar, Chatwakhu, Nongkroh, Lakadong, Theym and Saphai.

The total cost of the project is Rs 62,49,18,004.00 (sixty-two crore forty-nine lakh eighteen thousand four rupees).

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma stated it is the government’s concerted effort to focus on infrastructure development across the state.

“The project will not only benefit the people of the area but the entire Jaiñtia Hills region,” he said.
