Meghalaya CM confirms death of six persons in illegal coal mine

SHILLONG:

At least six labourers were killed after an accident occurred in an illegal coal mine near Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) district of Meghalaya on late Thursday night.

Confirming this, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, "Yes, I am aware of this incident but I am yet to get the details."

The Chief Minister is currently in Tharia Wahrew, Sohbar, East Khasi Hills district to inaugurate an Arch Bridge along with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.

According to reliable sources, illegal coal mining is still going on in the area.

It may be mentioned that on 13 December 2018, a mining tragedy which claimed the lives of 10 miners at Ksan village in EJH, had rocked the entire state and the Northeast.
