IMPHAL:

The Kuki Students’ Organisation (General Headquarters) (KSO-GHQ) has called for a complete shutdown in Manipur on March 26 and 27 to protest against the failure of the State Government to halt any further process of deletion of Any Kuki Tribes (AKT) from the list of Scheduled tribes of the state.

A statement issued by KSO-GHQ General Secretary Thanglenmang Simte, on Tuesday, stated that the KSO will oppose any decision taken by the Manipur Government that threatens the status of its people, whether it be Any Kuki Tribes (AKT) or any other Kuki tribes recognised under the Constitution of India.

It also stated that it strongly condemns the state cabinet’s decision taken on October 19, 2018, that resolved to delete the ST status for Any Kuki Tribes (AKT) and demanded the State Government to respect and allow the AKT to keep its status “as recognised under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act, 2002 and retract the Government’s stance and keep the ST status of AKT.”
