Manipur: Illicit liquor seized in Chandel district

IMPHAL:

The Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in a joint operation on January 5 seized illicit liquor in Phaisanjang area of Chandel district in Manipur.

Based on the inputs from human intelligence, the troops from Assam Rifles along with local police intercepted two suspected smugglers near Phaisangjang area.

However, the smugglers reportedly on a bike took advantage of the thick undergrowth and fled towards to the Myanmar side, leaving behind contraband items.

Upon examining the items, police discovered ten jerricans and 48 bottles of illicit country liquor.

The market price of the items recovered is estimated to be around Rs 4 lakhs.

Post examination, the items were handed over to Molcham Police Station in Chandel district.

Chandel district has become a hotbed area for smuggling since many cases are being reported from the area.
