Crackdown on poppy plantation in Manipur

With the illegal cultivation of poppy this makes Manipur a major source of narcotic drugs, the state government has launched a massive campaign since November last year to end the cultivation of poppy in the state.

About 35 acres of illicit poppy plantation was destroyed in Phalbung hill range under Tengnoupal district of Manipur on January 7.

The drive was carried out to check illegal plantations happening in the area without the knowledge of the authorities.

A combined team of Tengnoupal District Police, Narcotics and Affairs Border (NAB), District Administration, Horticulture Department led by Superintendent of Police (SP), Tengnoupal Vikramjit Singh carried out the destruction drive.

The team was also accompanied by another special operation team from the state, including SDO and others.

With the illegal cultivation of poppy this makes Manipur a major source of narcotic drugs, the state government has launched a massive campaign since November last year to end the cultivation of poppy in the state.
