Assam Rifles seize areca nuts worth ₹ 7.7 lakh in Manipur

IMPHAL:

The Assam Rifles troops on January 19 intercepted two vehicles and recovered 1400 kg of illegal betel nuts near New Songyang Village in Chandel district of Manipur.

The betel nuts were reportedly being carried from across the Indo-Myanmar border into the Indian territory with no legal documents.

The security forces informed that the assessed market value of the recovered edible items is around Rs. 7.7 lakh.

The recovered items were handed over to District Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel for further legal action.
