DIBRUGARH:

Unhappy with the “underperformance” of Moran BJP MLA Chakradhar Gogoi, BJP party workers staged a protest along National Highway-37 at Barbaruah in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Tuesday.

Dibrugarh has seven Legislative Assembly constituencies and polling in these seven seats will be held in the first phase on March 27.

The protesters came from different parts of Moran constituency and raised slogans against the present MLA besides threatening to quit the party if the party gave him a BJP ticket for the upcoming elections.

The slogans read out Chakradhar Hatao, BJP Bachao, Chakradhar Gogoi Murdabad (We don’t want Chakradhar).

“We want the development of our constituency. In the last five years, he has been busy accumulating wealth through corruption in panchayats. This time we don’t want him from Moran constituency,” said a protester.

In 2016, Gogoi contested for the first time and defeated Congress heavyweight Paban Singh Ghatowar by a margin of 16,231 votes.
