Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi claims Assam unsafe for women under BJP leadership

General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Monday, claimed that Assam has become unsafe for women under BJP rule.

Speaking at a public rally in Gohpur, Priyanka Gandhi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Assam for the rising crime rates against women.

Gandhi accused the Sonowal-led BJP Government of Assam of turning a blind eye to the rising crimes rates against women.

“Assam has the highest crime rate against women in the country,” Gandhi stated.

“Assam is the highest crime rate against women, but the BJP government is doing nothing to stop the crimes,” she said.

She said the upcoming Assam elections are important for the women of the state.

“You have the power to vote. Use it responsibly. This upcoming assembly election is crucial for women of the state,” Gandhi stated.

In 2019, Assam reported the highest rate of crime against women at 177.8 per lakh population.
