SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong established a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Royal Wahingdoh in a U-19 Shillong Premiere League match after Hardy Nongbri struck twice for the Reds. The Royals' young side came under pressure against an unforgiving Lajong that scored all four goals in the initial half.
Earlier, Hardy provided a 13th minute lead to put the Reds in front. Royal Wahingdoh struggled in the first half although after the break, several chances were created despite the lack of conversions.
In the 30th minute, Lalmuanpuia broke past Wahingdoh's defence to find himself in the clear and following his run up with a deft shot past the keeper. Hardy then scored his second goal four minutes later after collecting a short pass form within the box and producing a quick right-footer into the back of the nets.
Lajong's final goal came in the last minute of the half, with Kharbhih improvising on a rebound following a scramble. Kharbhih collected a rebound and sent a powerful shot to give the Shillong Lajong, who enjoyed a lion's share of the possession, a four-goal advantage at the end of the first forty-five minutes.
Royal Wahingdoh's Rheadolf Nongneng was the only major threat up front for the Royals. The skipper displayed subtlety by beating the Lajong defence in the second half but was unlucky not to find his target. Around three minutes later, his team mate Mahesh was given a clear-cut chance to score when from close range but his shot was blocked away.
