West Garo Hills (WGH) police swung into action in rescuing a kidnapped teenager from a gang of criminals after receiving input from Assam authorities.

According to sources, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a six-member gang on September 19. The victim is a resident of Ujonbatra in Assam. Two of the gang members are allegedly residents of Meghalaya, with four more from Assam making up the numbers.

Police identified the two suspects from Meghalaya as Mojidur Rehman and Sher Ali of Nalbari village under Phulbari Police Station.

Police authorities provided information of the kidnapping from Sukchor Police Station in Assam after narrowing down the gang's hideout to Sakmal under Rajabala outpost in the district.

As per reports, Assam police provided information on the presence of the criminals in Sakmal at 9 am on Monday, with the victim rescued and one of the gang members being arrested within two hours.

"Seeing the approaching policemen, the abductors abandoned their victim, but a wild chase ensued to nab the culprits. The determination of the police team led to the arrest of one member of the gang along with 2 more accomplices. They were arrested and formally handed over to Assam police for further investigation," said WGH Superintendent of Police, Dr MGR Kumar.
