Residents of Nongstoin town in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya will face water scarcity for at least two weeks after landslides disrupted the water supply in the town, officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department informed here on Thursday.
The recent flash floods and landslides had affected Nongstoin town and over 12 other villages.
Officials from the PHE Nongstoin Division informed that potable drinking water has been cut off in Nongstoin since the main pipelines in major parts of the town are damaged.
According to reports, the PHE department has deployed over 30 to 40 workers to the affected areas to repair the damaged pipelines.
"To bring back (restore) the water supply it will take over two weeks because the entire town has been affected", officials said.
