Meghalaya: Japanese Encephalitis vaccination campaign in WGH to begin in October

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, on Thursday, chaired a meeting regarding the launch of the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Vaccination Campaign in the district from October 1, 2020. They scheduled the campaign for March, but the campaign got delayed because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Emphasizing on the importance of the vaccination campaign as there have been several cases of JE in the district, Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh advised all parents in the district to cooperate with the authorities so that children between the ages of one to 15 can stay healthy in the future.
During the meeting, District Maternal and Child Health Officer Dr Ivonne M Sangma informed that the JE vaccines have already arrived in the district and that activities for sensitizing the people are being organised.
She also informed that the National De-Worming program would also be done simultaneously during this campaign.
Since schools are closed because of the pandemic, they will hold the vaccination campaign at the respective community halls in all localities by strictly adhering to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
Others who were present during the meeting included District Medical and Health Officer Dr Marwin R Sangma and District Program Officer, ICDS, Tura, C. Arengh.
