Meghalaya government will examine demand for CBI probe into alleged misappropriation of funds, says CM
SHILLONG | SEPT 21, 2020:
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the state government will examine the state BJP's demand for a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation of central funds by the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). "We will look into the demand by the BJP and take appropriate action," Sangma told reporters here on Monday.
When asked about the allegations made by the BJP that the state government had not responded to the allegations of corruption in the GHADC, Sangma responded by stating that it is something which the state government would have to examine adding that it is not something that the state government is not interested in. "We will decide how to move about this matter after seeing how things move forward," Sangma said.
Earlier, State BJP President Ernest Mawrie said the party had demanded a CBI probe into the allocation and utilization of central funds in the two autonomous councils. Mawrie said that the Government has not responded to the party's demand, adding that they are waiting for the response from the central leadership to withdraw support from the MDA Government.
