SHILLONG | SEPT 24, 2020:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that the state government is likely to discuss extending the term of the present house of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in the next meeting.

"We will see how to go about it and take a final call once this matter is brought before the Cabinet," Sangma told reporters here on Thursday. We may note that earlier reports stated that the state government was planning to extend the term of the GHADC for another six months.

The state government had earlier planned to hold the elections to the GHADC in October.  However, the state government could not move forward with its plan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The term of the present house in the GHADC would end in October this year.
