Helpline number and Facebook page for NE students in Chandigarh
The Chandigarh administration on Friday announced that they have launched a helpline number and Facebook page dedicated solely for the purpose of helping Northeast students residing in Chandigarh and in adjacent areas.
The page 'Chandigarh Administration for the people of Northeast' and toll-free helpline number – 1800-180-2130 was inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dev said such initiatives will provide a sense of assurance and safety to the Northeast community.
Last week, five students from Sikkim studying at the Institute of technology and Future Trends, were allegedly assaulted by another group of students from Himachal Pradesh over racist remarks.
The incident took place in Mullanpur on the outskirts of the city, where 10 people were arrested for the assault.
An official release said that UT Chandigarh DC Ajit Balaji has constituted a committee to safeguard the rights and freedom of the people of Northeast and it comprised Tapasya Raghav, SDM (E) and SP Roshan Lal as the nodal officer, along with the representatives of the Northeast community.
