Education till Class 10 may become free soon
NEW DELHI: In what may come as a relief to parents who are less stable financially and want their kids to complete education, it has been informed that Soon, studying till Class 10 in government schools across the country may not entail any costs.
As per reports, the Central government is mulling to make education till Class 10 free. The move is part of the Human Resource Development Ministry's plan to reform pre-school and secondary education system in the country.
The aim is to make sure everyone studies till at least the matriculate level. So far, free and compulsory education is being provided up to Class 8 under the Right to Education Act.
The UNICEF has said in a report that a lot needs to be done still to achieve universal education.
It may be mentioned that earlier, The Assam government has made the first year college education free for students whose parents' annual income is not above Rs 1 lakh.
This decision was announced by the state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that the measure will come into effect from the current year. Assam is the first state in the country to make this offer.
