Ban on meat a regressive step: Gogoi
GUWAHATI: At the time, when the nation sharing its varies views, mostly their anger over the meat ban in Mumbai and some parts of Maharastra during the ongoing Paryushan festival, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi termed the move as a retrogressive step as it violates the rights of the people to eat whatever food they like.
The CMO in a statement said that the ban on sale of meat is a retrogressive step as it curbs the rights of the people to enjoy whatever food they prefer and that the State Government would not put a ban on sale of meat in any form.
"The people have the right to choose the food they prefer to eat. Putting a ban on meat violates the rights of the people," Gogoi said. He also underscored that Assam government will never impose any ban on sale of meat in any form. Gogoi further adds "A vegetarian has the same right as a non-vegetarian to eat whatever food he or she prefers."
