Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) organized a rally today demanding NRC in Tripura in order to identify bona fide Indian citizens in the state. The rally was organized at Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTADC ) headquarters in Khumulung and garnered the support of many Indigenous people as large number of people especially youth participated in the rally.
This is the first massive rally organized by INPT after BJP-IPFT alliance came into power in the state. The support for the rally might give boost to one of the prominent Indigenous political party since the time Tripura merged with the Indian union. Moreover it can be seen as an effort to regain its lost ground in the political landscape of the state.
Apart from NRC, the leaders also demanded scraping of the proposed amendment of the Citizenship Bill, more power to the TTAADC, implementation of inner line permit (ILP), inclusion of Kokborok in the 8th schedule of the constitution among other demands.
INPT president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, Secretary Jagadish Debbarma, Asst.secretary Rabindra Debbarma, Shib Charan Debbarma, President of the Youth INPT Jammu Debbarma and Secretary Uma Shankar Debbarma also participated in the rally.
