Tripura: Committee for cultural & linguistic issues of Indigenous people to be formed soon

Tripura's Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has taken up the issue of long pending demand of BJP's alliance partner in Tripura, IPFT, that is constitution of a committee for examining the cultural and linguistic issues of Indigenous people of the state. The Union Home Minister Rajnath singh has given his consent in formation of the committee. The committee will be asked to submit a report within 60 days of its formation.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi yesterday along with Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma, ministers and senior officials of Assam government, officials of Mizoram, joint secretary of North East and other officials of Union Home Ministry.
In this meeting Tripura CM discussed several issues with Rajnath Singh such as Amendment of Article 280 and Sixth Schedule of constitution. The Chief Minister also proposed to develop tangible Tribal Village Councils while providing them with appropriate financial powers.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also suggested that to amend the representation of women to only 1/3rd of the total strength of the council. Rrather, the CM suggested that it may be fixed at not less than one-third of the strength to give flexibility to the state to increase the representation of women in future.
The Union Home Ministry has also decided to finalize a scheme of surrender and rehabilitation of the remaining cadres of NLFT and ATTF.
Rajnath Singh also directed the Mizoram government to provide security to the repatriated Reang citizens in Mizoram to ensure that the process of rehabilitation gets completed smoothly and securely.
