Tripura CM authors book on last king; Royal Scion hopes ‘truth’ is portrayed

Shillong: The BJP Government has been paying due respect to the last king of Tripura first by renaming the Agartala Airport as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and later by releasing a gold coin to commemorate his birth anniversary. And now, the Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb has also come out with a book on the last king of the state. The book was scheduled for release on August 19 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Party chief Amit Shah but the same was postponed due to the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on August 16, 2018.

Speaking to TNT- The Northeast Today, head of the Royal Family of Tripura Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said, "I am very happy that a book is being released by the Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb to enlist the contributions of my grandfather. I hope that the truth comes out and people get to know about the actual contributions of the last king of Tripura. The CM had called me personally in his individual capacity and asked me for my inputs which me and my sister have willingly contributed. I only hope that the truth comes out as it is".

The launch of the book has been postponed for now and will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in about two weeks time. It must be mentioned that Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarma Manikya Bahadur of Tripura is fondly remembered as the architect of modern day Tripura. He died at a very young age of 39 but his achievement for the state towers everything else.

Sources have informed that the book tells about the King being the face of the northeast India, his foreign tours and his vision about the region. The book has been first printed in the English and Hindi version but its Bangla version is in the process of translation. The Union cabinet under the prime minister Narendra Modi recently decided airport of Tripura in Agartala to be named after him. He was the last King of the state who had died in May 1947.

Tripura was a sovereign state in itself under Veer Vikram Manikya and his predecessors that is all mentioned in the book before it merged into Indian in 1949. A gold coin was also issued by the CM on his 110 birthday on August 20. He is considered to be the father of the modern Tripura, who is credited with the entire planning of the present-day Tripura that was initiated during his regime. A pioneers of land reforms who he reserved land for Tripura tribals in 1939, which was later instrumental in the creation of the Tripura autonomous district council. He also built the first airport in Tripura, which is today the second busiest airport in the entire northeast.
