UNI | Agartala, October 7, 2018
At least 13 persons were injured in a group clash between the supporters of ruling BJP and it's ally Indigenous Peoples' Front of Tripura (IPFT) yesterday following a dispute over distribution of NREGA works at Panboya panchayat of Salema in Dhalai district.
However, nobody has been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
According to police, ahead of Durga puja the state government has allocated 484 person days NREGA work for the village. The panchayat committee called a meeting with the villagers for execution of work yesterday in this regard where some BJP leaders were also present.
Iy has been alleged that IPFT has allocated the works in favour of their cadres and the location of the works which BJP has opposed.
This led to them engaging in a scuffle that reportedly left seven persons injured.
Later, when they were shifted to hospital allegedly, BJP cadres attacked IPFT workers in the
hospital and injured six others. Police said situation is under control and all preventive measures
have been taken to maintain peace in the area.
