Online Power Connection for Country announced

GUWAHATI: As per a new policy decision of the Power Ministry, all new connection of power  in India will  be given through an online application procedure within few months. Union Minister for State for power Piyush Goyal said this whiling addressing the two-day  nation conference of Power, got underway at Guwahati on Thursday. He said, anyone applying for new connection online will be given power connectivity within 15 days of submission of online application form.

"We have asked the states to prepare action plans; it needs to be tailor made for each state as to how the 24×7 power supply regime can be established. We will use technology to assist power reforms. A pilot project was launched in Mumbai and Delhi enabling people to submit online application for new connection. This was successful in providing hassle free connections. Now we want to take the same model to the rest of the nation." Goyal said.

Delegates including power ministers from 21 states and power department secretaries of all the states and Union territories were present in the conference.

Goyal reiterated that making Northeast India a major power house of the country is on top Prime Minister Narendra Modi's agenda and thus the national conference has been organized in Guwahati. A special Northeastern region power system Improvement Project with a costing of 5111 crore is on anvil.

"We are hopeful December 2015 we will be able to launch initiative according to state wise action plan" Goyal further added.

The Centre is also trying to push the state government to implement e-procurement and e-tendering. New Delhi has also approved an innovative scheme for utilization of standard gas based power projects that aims at keep power affordable.

This scheme envisages all stakeholders including Discoms from Power Sector Development Fund (PSDF) through reverse e-bidding process. The national Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency was approved with an outlay of 775 crores.

The power Minister also said that the centre is very much keen on  faster construction of the 2000 Mega watt Hydro power project in Gerukamukh of Assam –Arunachal border.
