WATCH | Meghalaya: Children rescue injured Eurasian Coot from Shillong

SHILLONG:

The local children of Mawblei locality in Shillong on October 26, rescued an injured Eurasian Coot - a bird rarely seen in Meghalaya.

While they were out fetching water, the children noticed that the bird can no longer walk due to an injury and decided to rescue it.

On being informed, their uncle, R. Kharkongor sought the help of some scribes in Shillong who later informed the Wildlife department.

The injured bird now has been handed over the Wildlife department.

The Eurasian coot, also known as the common coot, or Australian coot, is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae. It is found in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and parts of North Africa.
