Meghalaya: Conrad hits out at Mukul over "contradictory" statements on coal issue

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has hit out at Opposition leader, Dr Mukul Sangma for “contradictory” statements on the coal issue in the state and asked him to produce evidence to substantiate his allegations on the issue.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, the chief minister said that the opposition is trying to confuse the people of the state with their statements and allegations.

Recently, leader of the opposition and former chief minister, Dr Mukul Sangma had alleged that the 32 lakh metric tonnes of extracted coal, as presented by the government to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) is not true. He had further alleged that officers of the mining department are working under the duress of the government.

Reacting to this, Sangma has termed Dr Mukul’s statement as "political" even as he asserted that the government has followed all necessary guidelines and instructions from the Supreme Court and the NGT.

Meanwhile, to a question on the delay in the auctioning of coal, the chief minister said, the process is on and transportation is being done from pit head to depots and the auctioning process will soon start in some of the districts.
