KOHIMA:

Sixteen-year-old leg-spinner Khrievitso Kense from Nagaland was shortlisted for the auction in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on February 18, 2021.

Kanse is also the youngest player from India to make it to the “VIVO IPL 2021 Player Auction List” and the first cricketer from Nagaland to achieve the feat.

He was shortlisted for a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

According to sources, both Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals have their eyes set on the young player.

Kanse made his Twenty20 debut on January 13, 2021, for Nagaland in the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Following his debut, Mumbai Indians invited him to take part in the trails.

After a successful trial, they included him in the list of probable players who would feature in the next edition of the IPL.

The young leg spinner who idolises Indian batsman Rohit Sharma and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan hopes that his selection will inspire others to pick up the game.

A few players from Assam had made it to the earlier editions of the IPL, and the tournament has become a source of attraction in the northeast region which does not consider cricket as the first sport.

Notably, reforms in Indian Cricket back in 2018 integrated the north-eastern teams to play all the domestic tournaments and has helped local players showcase their skill in major national tournaments.
