SHILLONG:

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS), an initiative driven by Reliance Foundation, is supporting and promoting sports for women by allowing them to explore their talent.

RFYS football tournament has been a vast experience for several young girls from smaller towns and has offered them national recognition and opportunities.

Some of these girls from the northeast who began their journey of national recognition at tournaments conducted by RFYS include Wandashisha Marwein from Umthli Secondary School, Shillong.

Marwein was shortlisted among four players to join the camp for the U-17 Women’s World Cup team after a scouting exercise conducted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) along with RFYS in 2019.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) also picked up Manipur’s golden girls, Linda Chanu and Babina Devi after they played in tournaments conducted by the RFYS.

Linda and Babina gained international experience as part of the Indian team at the Under-15 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) women’s championships in Bhutan last year.
