BIRMINGHAM:

The Indian shuttlers are all set to compete in the All England Open Badminton Championship to be held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham from March 17-21.

The Indian contingent has cleared all COVID-19 tests, national coach Mathias Boe informed.

India’s Parupalli Kashyap will be the first to go up against Japanese ace Kento Momota.

HS Prannoy will take on Malaysia’s Daren Liew — an opponent he lost to at the Toyota Thailand Open earlier this year — while the former world No. 1 Srikanth Kidambi will face Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto.

Sameer Verma could face the third seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark if he wins his opening round against Ygor Coelho of Brazil.

Meanwhile, B. Sai Praneeth will face-off against Danish star Viktor Axelsen.

In the women’s category, PV Sandhu will take on the Malaysian S Cheah in her first match.

Another Indian shuttler, Saina Nehwal, will face-off against Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in her opener.
