AHMEDABAD:

India won the fourth and final test by an innings and 25 runs here at the Narendra Modi Stadium and clinched the series 3-1.

The hosts showed some stellar performance and completely outplayed the England team.

India also qualified for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand in June.

Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin were in top form, with the duo registering five-wicket hauls as England’s batting order once again floundered in their second innings.

England could only manage 135 runs in the second innings in 54.5 overs, and could not overtake India’s lead of 160 runs.

Joe Root (30) and Dan Lawrence (50) were the only noteworthy batsman from the England side, others continued with their poor form.

The hosts wrapped up their first innings before lunch, scoring 365 runs, and registered a strong lead of 160 runs.

Washington Sundar scored 96 runs in 174 balls, narrowly missing out on a century.

Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded the 'player of the series' and Rishabh Pant got the 'player of the match' award.

The teams will be up against each other for the T20 matches which starts on March 12, followed by One-Day International (ODI).
