India defeat England in 1st ODI match in Pune

NEW DELHI:

India defeated England in the first One-Day International at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Tuesday.

The men in blue batted first and set a target of 318, which England unsuccessfully chased and were all-out by 251 in 42.1 overs.

Batting first, India lost five wickets in 50 overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan scored 98 runs, KL Rahul 122 and Krunal helped the team cross the 300 scores.

Skipper Virat Kohli managed to score 56 runs.

The visitors failed to chase the targeted score and were all out by 251. Ben Stokes took three wickets, while Mark Wood bagged two wickets.

From the Indian side, M Prasidh Krishna took four wickets for 54 runs, Shardul Thakur took three for 37, while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar took two for 30 runs.
