Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will be Congress' Chief Ministerial candidate in the 2016 Assam state assembly elections, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said in Guwahati on Saturday. He said Congress party would retain power in Dispur for the fourth consecutive terms with Tarun Gogoi as Chief Minister.
Interacting with a group of senior journalists in Guwahati in the morning the party vice president said that he was confident of yet another term for Congress.
He said that the people of Assam would reject BJP which is a communal party. When a senior journalist asked him about the decade old influx problem in the state, Gandhi avoided a direct reply and pushed it to the Chief Minister's court.
Some other major problems confronting Assam were also figured in the one hour long interaction of Rahul Gandhi with senior journalists at the Brahmaputra Guest House. He said the party has full confidence in the leadership of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and the chief minister and only they would decide about any alliance with any political parties in Assam.
