Team Jiva on the forefront maintaining cleanliness in Shillong

The Jiva team has been silently contributing towards maintaining the cleanliness of Shillong city.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jiva team is continuing with its efforts of cleaning the Khyndailad area, which they had started six years back. Thanks to the efforts of the Jiva team that Shillong’s famous junction is filled with greenery which adds more beauty to the city.

The man behind this noble initiative is a prominent city businessman and owner of JIVA Hospitality, Jiwat Vasvani fondly called as Bablu.

It is the love of nature and his love for plants right from childhood, which has motivated Bablu to start this initiative. He has been carrying out the initiative to keep the city clean and green for over 6 years now.

Besides Khyndailad, the JIVA team is spreading its wings to other parts of the city by cleaning the road leading to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and places like Shillong Golf Course. What is interesting is that Bablu has created the JIVA Team from his own staff who are working with him.

On Thursday morning, the Jiva team arrived at Khyndailad and started the cleaning process and also maintaining the plants they have planted at the junction.

Talking about this initiative, he said that the campaign began since he felt there is a need to maintain the beauty of the city. He told that in the last six years they have been planting trees at the Khyndailad junction.

Bablu stated that they are not doing this out of compulsion and it is a call from within they are doing this. When asked if the team faced any issues during this pandemic, he said, they had faced challenges because of the pandemic “but it is my team members who are the primary force for continuing with this initiative,” he said.

Even though they have not received any financial help from the Government, Bablu said that he is grateful to the team of the Shillong Municipal Board and the Deputy Commissioner’s office for their support.

During cleaning, waste like plastic bottles, chips packet, clothes, used masks, broken bottles was majorly found.

Meanwhile, he also suggested that hoteliers should come forward to take charge of a particular lane to clean up and maintain the greenery, and maybe there will be some kind of competition to showcase whose lane is the cleanest.

It may be mentioned that the East Khasi Hills district administration had felicitated Bablu for his contribution towards maintaining the cleanliness of Khyndai Lad, Shillong.
