IIT Bombay’s annual social fest -‘The Denizen Dream’ to start from Jan 23

MUMBAI:

Abhyuday, a social wing of the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT), will be organising its 8th edition of annual social fest under the theme - ‘The Denizen Dream’ from January 23 and 24.

The two-day festival is packed with events and activities that will focus on bringing about a change in society.

‘The Denizen Dream’ will be the theme of this year’s annual fest, which will try to reignite the message of the Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary Mother Teresa, who had famously said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

“The 8th Edition of Abhyuday’s fest seeks to inspire the youth to bring a change and for a better tomorrow,” said the organisers of the event.

The 8th edition of its festival will be graced by some of the most prominent personalities of the country.

The event will include a series of sessions named “Treaded Street” to enlighten the students regarding various career paths.

In this series, Jayant Sinha, an MP and former union minister, will be guiding the audience on 'Politics as a Career Opportunity'.

Karn Satyarthi, an IAS officer, will be giving guidance for exploring career opportunities in bureaucracy.

Mrs Shubhra Chakraborty, Founder and CEO of POSHAN, will be sharing her knowledge on the topic of ‘Social Entrepreneurship’ through a workshop.

Prashant Dhawan, Co-Founder of the 'Biomimicry India Network', will enlighten the students about Biomimicry and how humans look up to nature to provide inspiration and direction to solve our most pressing challenges sustainably.

The fest also comprises an Art competition named ‘Kalamanch’ to address social issues through the medium of art. It also has a ‘PIL Drafting Competition’ (Public Interest Litigation) in collaboration with ‘Indian Leadership Forum’ to address and suggest solutions on the issue of ‘Human Trafficking‘ on the legal stage. Other than this, the fest also includes panel discussions, workshops, talks and campaigns.

Abhyuday, the social-wing of IIT Bombay, is the largest student-run social body in the Asian Continent. It conducts year-long campaigns and events which tackle pressing issues plaguing society.

Abhyuday’s notable initiatives include organising career counselling sessions and Masti Ki Pathshala. Abhyuday had also arranged an online campaign ‘Rising Above Corona: A Crusade Against the Stigma’ in collaboration with UNICEF India.
