Do you ever procrastinate to avoid unpleasant tasks or assignments? Do you find it hard to get started? Do you struggle to stay focused on any task, motivating yourself to complete assignments, study, and do all the other things required of you can be difficult—but it’s crucial to your success.

Everyone needs a motivational push now and then, here are some motivational tips to help you remain motivated.

YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR OWN SUCCESS

Teachers can do many things. They can inspire, motivate, and educate. You (student) need to do your part to get motivated and believe in yourself. No one can force you to learn because it in your hands. Take responsibility.

PLAN YOUR GOALS AND STICK TO THE PLAN

Goal setting with a realistic, well-thought plan is a map for success. Set a learning target. Take a calendar and fit in 15 minutes to an hour every day to do some activity to help you reach your goal. Don’t just rely on your school syllabus and books to make you achieve your goals. Add extra activities to your learning plan.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF COMPETITION 

You don’t have to tame your competitive spirit. In fact, it can help you be a more diligent student and have fun while doing homework and making better achievements than anyone else in class.

Being competitive doesn’t mean that you have to become the classmate no one likes. You can team up with one or two friends and inspire each other to do better in all subjects. Healthy competition can be a very inspiring motivation, if you know how to approach it.

QUITTERS NEVER WIN. REFUSE TO QUIT

Who sets a goal to lose? Who says, “Let’s get out there and fail”? When you set your mind to learning and commit to it, you will learn something every time. It may only be 75 per cent of your target today, but that is 75 per cent more than a quitter has learned.

AVOID PROCRASTINATION 

Stop making excuses. It’s not a problem to come up with reasons not to study. Excuses lead to nothing. Failure is easy, success takes effort. Make the effort now.

ONLY YOU CAN BREAK YOUR BAD HABITS AND MAKE GOOD ONES

If you have bad study habits, change them. Teachers can only help you how to learn, how to practise, how to study, but only you have control over your own dedication. The good thing about habits is that good ones turn into routine.

Focus on the process, not the result.

When you are studying, it’s often difficult to see the fruit of your labour, especially at the beginning.

Did you complete most of your planned tasks today? Congratulate yourself. Did you stick to your study schedule?  Did you put your phone in another room when you were studying, so you would not be distracted? Keep it up!

Remember, it’s habits that you’re trying to form. If you get the process right, the results will follow.

CREATE YOUR OWN REWARD SYSTEM

If a big science project is giving you trouble and you can’t even get motivated enough to start it, make a plan and divide the entire process into few smaller steps. Take each step and turn it into a goal, having the big picture in front of you at all times.

Set deadlines for each step and reward yourself with small treat or breaks after every achievement. When you focus on the prize, you will be motivated to do everything right.

The constant workload and academic pressure can cause tiredness and overwhelm in every student. Hence, try to practise these few motivational tips in order to keep yourself motivated.
