SHILLONG:

A fire broke out at the Serum Institute of India's plant in Pune on Thursday.

According to media reports, the fire broke out at Terminal 1 gate and had spread to the fourth and fifth floors of SEZ3 building.

Smoke could be seen coming out of one of the buildings at Gopalpatti.

However, company officials have refused to comment on the matter.

Ten fire-tenders from Pune Fire Brigade arrived at the site and immediately began their attempts to douse the flame.

Authorities are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The Serum Institute has been manufacturing the locally produced Oxford Covid-19 vaccine 'Covishield'.

Sources state that the blaze will not affect vaccine production as the storage unit is out of danger.

More details awaited.
