CWC appoints Sonia Gandhi as interim Congress President

NEW DELHI | Aug 10, 2019:

After Rahul Gandhi refused to take up the mantle of President again, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday has chosen UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi as the interim president of the party.

The decision was taken today evening after the CWC met for the second round of the meeting in Delhi.

In the first round of the meeting, the CWC was unable to decide on the new president after Rahul Gandhi refused to reconsider his decision to resign as the president following the Lok Sabha poll debacle.

Earlier in the day, after emerging from the meeting, Sonia Gandhi told reporters that she and Rahul Gandhi are not part of the five sub-groups formed in the CWC to elect the new party chief.
