JOWAI | JULY 22, 2020:

Heavy rains in Meghalaya for the last few days have triggered floods and landslides in several parts of the state particularly in Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills. The floods in Garo Hills have so far claimed five lives and caused serious damage to public and private properties including agricultural land.

In the last few days, the Khasi and Jaintia Hills witnessed many incidents of major and minor landslides leading to connectivity being cut off due to the collapse of roads and small bridges.

On July 22, a section of the Shillong-Jowai road at Wah Mynsoo in West Jaintia Hills District collapsed due to heavy rains. No casualty was reported and only one side of the road was allowed for vehicles to ply.
