Tripura’s living legend still going strong

Tripura Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, on July 20, visited the residence of living legend and Padma Shri awardee, Thanga Darlong Ji on his 100th birthday.

Thanga Darlong Ji is famous for his contribution to the folk music of Tripura and for his work in preserving and promoting the traditional instrument Rosem.

He is also a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award – the highest Indian recognition given to practising artists, the Academic Fellowship Award, the state-level Vayoshresta Samman and the Centenarian Award.

Darlong hails from Kailashahar in Tripura's Unakoti district.

In 2016, he was also showcased in Tree of Tongues in Tripura directed by Josy Joseph.
