Kok Tripura is a Kokborok (tribal dialect) news channel and the militant leader spoke in Kokborok. His message was aired by the channel.

"When I requested him to send a video message, he declined. He insisted on recording the message over phone," Kamal Koloi, Chief Editor of Kok Tripura, told The Hindu.

Utpal Debbarma said indigenous people regard the royal family as a symbol of their identity and the family has been their source of inspiration. Hence the NLFT "would not spare those who committed the attack on Pragya Debbarman', he warned.

Ms. Pragya Debbarman is elder sister of State Congress chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, royal scion of Tripura's Manikya dynasty that ruled the State for 500 years till it merged with the Indian Union on October 15, 1949. The PCC president earlier blamed the IPFT for the attack on vehicle of Ms. Pragya Debbarman while she was engaged in campaigning in Khowai.

State BJP has reported the NLFT threat issue to the Election Commission. Party spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee alleged that 'extremists always revolve around the Congress and grow with its support'.
