Tripura: Senior IPFT leader quits party to join newly floated indigenous platform

The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) on Friday suffered a major blow with the resignation of senior party leader of Dhalai district- Krishna Mohan Debbarma to join royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barman. Debbarma's newly floated indigenous platform — Upajati Bachao Manch.

Debbarma, who is an important leader of the BJP-IPFT alliance government, however has refuted reports of him joining the Congress.

Debbarma addressed the media in his residence- Ambassa yesterday, where he expressed his disappointment with the IPFT leadership for "failure" to keep up to the party's promise.

He also added that he has decided to join Maharaja Pradyot Kishore's floated Upajati Bachao Manch, a common platform for indigenous people.

He claimed he would officially join Upajati Bachao Manch on March 4 along with his 300 followers sand Maharaja, who is all set to become the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president, will remain present to welcome him.

The board is set and the pieces are making and it is only a matter of time before the Lok Sabha battle line is drawn.

It will interesting to witness how things will go in the Lok Sabha elections in East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency with a sizable number of IPFT leaders and workers expressing their frustration over the party leadership for the past few months.
