Tripura Police summon Congress leader vis-a-vis ‘fake post’ about CM

AGARTALA | July 03, 2019:

Senior Congress leader Subal Bhowmik has been summoned by the Tripura Police Crime Branch for interrogation in connection with the recent 'derogatory comment' against chief minister, Biplab Kumar Deb on social media.

The case is in connection with the Facebooker Anupam Paul, who was earlier arrested for purportedly defaming the chief minister on social media.

Anupam Paul, a Facebook user from Tripura was earlier booked for posting derogatory comments on Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on social media. He was arrested from New Delhi in June this year after absconding for about 1.5 months. The accused Paul was absconding since April 26, when he was booked with charges of defamation, forgery and criminal conspiracy against the Chief Minister Deb.

Addressing a news conference this afternoon, Bhowmik said he will not go and record his statement at the SP office but requested them to question him at his residence.

Bhowmik has received three notices on the issue till today.

Bhowmik also claimed that he has no idea where Paul was and he didn't help the accused person.

"Police questioned 150 youths in relation to Anupam Paul's case but didn't arrest anyone. They have summoned me for questioning too. I am not an absconder. I am ready to answer their questions but in my house. Police are harassing people. My summon notices are leaked to the press. It is an attempt to tarnish my image", Subal Bhowmik said.

The Congress leader Bhowmik also said though he didn't help Anupam all this time, now he would help him by arranging bail. "The help would be provided purely on humanitarian grounds," he said.
