Tripura: ‘Notun Disha Scheme’ is a success in elementary education; Minister

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday said that the Notun Disha scheme which was introduced by the state government with an objective to strengthen the base of students is a success in elementary education.

In this context, Nath informed that according to the National Achievement Survey in 2017 it was observed that up to Class- VIII the base of 59 percent of students in Science, 62 percent of students in Mathematics, and 62 percent of students in SST was very poor. Similarly, the Annual Status Education Report of Pratham Foundation, a voluntary organization, showed that most of the students of Class III to VIII were unable to read their books and they were not able to do addition.

Nath added that looking at the data, the new state government had carried out a massive survey among the students across the state in February, last year. The survey report revealed that 69 percent of students of Class III and V and 43 percent of students of Class VI to VIII were not fit for such classes.

In order to ensure quality education and strengthen the base of students, based on the survey reports the state government initiated the Notun Disha scheme, centralized examination, and teacher-guardian meet.

In the press conference, the Education Minister informed that the annual examinations were completed before the announcement of lockdown for which 95 percent of the total 1,50,168 students of Class III to V had appeared in the annual examination. According to Nath this year 88 percent of the students, who appeared the annual examination, had passed the examinations.

Further, 88 percent of 1,42,771 students of Class VI to VIII, had appeared in the annual examination and the pass percentage was 98 percent, said Nath. He also informed that re-examination for the students, who could not secure 24 marks on an average or did not appear in the annual examinations would be held.

The minister also congratulated the teachers and guardians of the students for the successful implementation of the Notun Disha scheme.
